StateBroadcastNews.com, the news reporting and production division of The Lubetkin Media Companies, was honored by the New Jersey Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists with a second place recognition in the Web Video category of the NJ-SPJ’s annual journalism contest. SBN was honored for its video news report, “Albert Anastasia’s Fort Lee Home Being Auctioned,” about the sale of a Fort Lee, NJ, home once owned by notorious mobster Albert Anastasia. The judges commented on the report’s use of old newsreel footage of Anastasia’s bodyguards confronting reporters outside the home before Anastasia finally agreed to pose for photos.

“It is particularly gratifying that NJ-SPJ has recognized the work of SBN among independent journalists entering the contest,” says Steve Lubetkin, SBN’s news director, chief videographer, and on-camera news correspondent. “We are a small, independent news producer, we don’t have the extensive resources of our broadcast news colleagues, so having SPJ judges regard our work on the same level with larger journalism organizations encourages us to redouble our efforts to provide high-quality coverage of news stories.”

It’s SBN’s second recognition from NJ-SPJ for its video. Last year, SBN won a third place in the web video category for its video news report on an Affordable Care Act rally and registration event produced for content partner NJSpotlight.com.
